Well, the summer is winding down. I feel certain summers are passing faster each year. I sincerely hope you have had a fantastic time with your family over the last few months. We would really love to hear about what you've done. Vacations, family reunions, stay-cations; whatever you're doing, we want to celebrate with you!

Parenting Resources

TO READ and SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT:

Praying with your family is such a vital part of discipling your children in their spiritual development. However, sometimes it is difficult to know where to start, especially if it isn't something you grew up doing. Our recent Family Service had a big focus on prayer. We offered a Timothy Keller devotion book as a tool to help you to begin a prayer time with your family. He also authored another book, Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God; which is specifically about prayer. Hopefully you, the parent, will become more comfortable with prayer and even fall in love with talking to the Father! And what you love will spill over, and be contagious, to your family members!
With his trademark insights and energy, Keller offers biblical guidance as well as specific prayers for certain situations, such as dealing with grief, loss, love, and forgiveness. He discusses ways to make prayers more personal and powerful, and how to establish a practice of prayer that works for each reader.

TECHNOLOGY:

In RezKids we are taking a three year journey through the entire Bible! As we began meeting again in July we picked up just after the birth of Jesus. Each lesson builds on the last, so it's SO important for the kids to be present every time we meet. We don't want them to miss even one truth filled lesson that points to the Gospel at every turn. The Gospel Project (our fantastic curriculum) has an app that you can use at home, in the car, waiting in line, etc. This app allows for continued practice of the memory verse, review of the stories we've covered and even some games to help solidify what is being taught in RezKids. The link is below. This is a great tool to help you further discuss what the kids are learning in RezKids, build relationship with them, and have Gospel centered conversations!

MOTIVATION

  • Being intentional about praying independently and with your family has great rewards in both your relationship with your kids and with our Lord.

  • Gain an understanding and appreciation for the role prayer can play in your life and spiritual development.

  • Help your children learn more about the Bible in a fun, hands on way.

ACTION STEPS

  1. Order Timothy Kellers book on prayer.

  2. Plan a time to read the book. Mark it on your calendar.

  3. Be intentional about sticking to the plan so you can be successful and grow in our relationship with the Lord and your family!

  4. Download The Gospel Project For Kids app on your device or phone so it is ready to go! Utilize this app to help disciple your kids.

Ok, take a few moments and look over these action steps. Add some, or all, to your planner to ensure you make progress on these steps this week so you are prepared to implement these tools and resources in August.

I would really love to hear how you are using the resources in your family. Do you have a testimony or story of how God is working in your family? Let me know, I’d like to celebrate with you!
